WEAVING SOUTHWEST is a tapestry gallery, a handweaving studio, and a manufacturer and supplier of weaving & spinning equipment, and hand-dyed yarns. The tapestry gallery, started in 1987, shows the work of many of New Mexico's preeminent contemporary tapestry artists while the handweaving studio produces rugs, blankets, and pillows on the premises. The supply business (also known as Rio Grande Weavers Supply), manufactures Rio Grande looms, spinning wheels and hand-dyed yarns for knitters and weavers.

Weaving Southwest is owned and operated by Rachel Brown. Best known for The Weaving, Spinning, and Dyeing Book which was published in 1978 by Alfred Knopf and is now in its 11th printing, Brown has been active in the revival of weaving and wool production in the Southwest. She is a founding member of Mountain and Valley Wool Association and helped found Tierra Wools, an Hispanic worker owned company where she was a teacher and consultant for five years.

In October, 1993, Rachel received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D. C. Awards were given to 37 women in the Craft Arts for "making a difference" in their fields.
